Magia Record. I will have my revenge on you. What is up with all these unforgivably sexualised girls when the original Madoka avoided that. I get it's a sleazy gacha mobile game but perverts don't care what the girl is wearing, okay. You could have still given her a nice design. And on that topic why does almost every girl have her belly outttt for no reasonnnnn. We have comical amounts of stomach here, which is weird when every girl is guest designed, which implies some higher up with a skinny teen girl belly button fetish was forcing the guest artists to cut holes in their designs just for the characters to show more skin. Like. What. I am still speechless about this. And I'm not even getting started on the retcons to PMMM's lore. Shivers.
And the worst part is that there are so many good concepts in this game. I played it obsessively throughout Lockdown, until they shut it off and broke my 15 year old heart. Even the weird messy anime adaptation is enjoyable, and I actually respect it more than the game because the anime actively tries to be less horny and more...artsy? Like, it's kind of awful but I like it. Magia Record has a lot of lovely characters. A lot of cool new Witches and Uwasa. The Doppel system is SO peak, probably my fave thing to come out of the game, and I would love to do some reviews for their consistently perfect designs someday. But otherwise Magireco is weirddd mainly because it feels so out of character for PMMM. I wouldn't mind it so much if it wasn't tacked onto the Madoka brandname. Perhaps the first warning sign was Mami's "redesign" in Rebellion, and maybe I should have seen this coming. Maybe Magia Record is the Witch form to Madoka Magica's magical girl. Whatever. Let's frown over these midriffed little girls like a disapproving parent, I guess.
