Coordinators

The coordinators are a special class of magical girl who made especially OOO dark and edgy wishes OOOOO and so now they can't fight properly on their own and must rely on other girls' help collecting grief seeds. To make this work, they set up shops where they can power up other magical girls by tapping into their soul gem and realigning it or something. Oh and they're all meant to have a performance/travelling circus theme but they kind of just don't, which is a shame for such a neat aesthetic concept. I'm not mad, Magia Record. Actually I totally am mad at this stupid game.

Mitama Yakumo

Mitama is the main coordinator in the game and acts as the shopkeeper, selling the gacha pulls. Maybe because I was weirdly lucky with this game despite never spending any real money, like Pavlov's dog, I ended up liking Mitama. She's another girl they kind of mess up in the anime but oh well. At least we got the scene of her putting ketchup on her dessert. Mitama has a butlery aesthetic which is clever, and I like her hair colour and her blue rose brooch. I think the tail could have been a different colour, because it sort of melts into the pencil skirt, and maybe she could do with some sleeves. Mitama doesn't actually have the power to fight witches, so the impracticality of her design makes sense, for once.

Livia Medeiros

My version of the game quit service before I could ever find out anything about these next few girls, but I'll try. Livia is, from my understanding, the leader of a travelling team of coordinators. Livia is supposed to be a magician, but other than her floating top hat, you really can't tell unfortunately. A magical stage magician would have made for a better outfit than this, I imagine. Livia doesn't look BAD, but it's just so generic "sexy". At the very least, she seems to be an adult, but that doesn't mean I'm okay with the fanservice when it compromises the design. I mean, her five star art is egregious. It feels sort of weird when the only darker-skinned character in the game is depicted as the super sexy, gag-boobed one. Her transformation is really cool, and again I just wish she was actually a magician.

Yozuru Sasame

No idea what her performance theme is supposed to be but her design is simple and cute. It's refreshing to see a masc magical girl whose arc isn't all the other girls saying "we must forcefem her NOW!!!!"

Sudachi Sawa

Okay we've got miss tryhard edge backstory over here. Magia Record using a school shooting as a backstory is baffling because with their track record they are incapable of handling anything close to serious topics, nevermind something as serious as this. It just comes across as an attempt to shock and I think that's really disrespectful, but hey, isn't this whole game disrespectful towards everything, including the very concept of magical girls. Anyway, Sudachi is I guess the clown girl, or the rabbit out of the hat, but her design does not do a good job of showing whatever she's meant to be. She's non-verbal from her trauma, but apparently you can magic this away with a special item in-game. You can't see me right now but I'm frowning hard. My case as an autistic person who struggles with speech is of course different, but this still seems deeply disrespectful. Also do not watch her transformation unless you want to be flashbanged by 12 year old nipples.
