Go Princess Precure
I don't think anyone could dislike this baby. Haruka is a cheerful, clumsy, and determined girl who dreams of being a princess, which shows in her design; she looks a bit like a kid playing dress up, which is pretty much what she is. One note, I'd say she's the only girl in this season who really looks her age, which is apparently TWELVE. I love the contrast between the cure forms in this season, and the decadence of them. The fancy dresses and big ombre hair!! Cure Flora is just adorable, with a combative princess costume allowing Haruka to live out her fairytale dreams as she deserves. The fabric trains suggest a longer gown without cluttering the design, but, very cleverly, the dresses do become full-length ballgowns during power-ups and attacks. I love that Flora, down to the hairstyle and brighter eyes, is a sort of magical "upgrade" of Haruka (in her own eyes, I imagine) and all the shapes in her outfit thread beautifully together. The blonde hair with the pink tips is such a pretty choice. Side note, I love that the theme in this season isn't just princesses, but that they all look like they could be the princess of a different fantasy elemental realm. Flora, then, is the classic storybook princess surrounded by flowers and woodland creatures.
Minami is a rich student council type, a Precure trope, but done standout here. I remember really liking Minami, with her struggles between her family and her marine biologist dreams, plus her sweet, unconditional sort of supportiveness of Haruka. Who could forget the scene where she dances with her at a ball < 3 Minami has a simple, functional design which shows her businesslike personality well, and this translates even to Cure Mermaid's glamour. Her underwater princess costume is so thematic and pretty with its strings of pearls, fish-scaled boots, and the swimsuit cut, but the highlight is of course that gorgeous kinetic hair seemingly made of the ocean itself; probably one of, if not the most beautiful Precure hair. It even looks simultaneously like a tail!
The energetic young model Kirara was my fave Precure as a kid, and she may have drifted, but I still like her as much as the rest of this fabulous quartet. She's playful and big-sisterly, often teasing her friends. Her model career is reflected in her fashion sense, which is always a noticeable slay even in this series of top-tier style. I really like her bushy brown pigtails and, honestly, just how much personality she exudes. Cure Twinkle, the outer-space princess, incorporates gorgeous bright orange with genius pops of purple. I like the subtlety of this design, which suits her type of style, though it's probably the weakest of the team just by comparison. It does feel slightly less cohesive, but one of them has to.
Towa is the only actual, legal princess, as an elven royal from another world. Since she was kidnapped and brainwashed into being the princess of the dark world for most of her life (damn), Towa, when she's freed, is kind of innocent and clueless, and very sweet. I like her big beehive hair and her off-duty princess fashion a lot. I do wish she had the darker skin of her elder brother Kanata, but Precure has always been weird about stuff like that, sadly. I'll maybe be looking at villain designs later, but let me tell you Towa (as the dark princess Twilight) is one of the best, even amongst tough competition. I usually don't like when Precure's redeemed cures were just brainwashed--it sort of allows them to skirt around an actual redemption arc or responsibility--but Towa is a unique, well-written case where she experiences frequent nightmares and trauma and learns coping techniques. It all becomes a lovely message. Cure Scarlet is possibly one of the most beautiful magical girls I've ever seen. The sunset pink, flowing, twisting hair against her elegant, mature red dress is a stunning combo, while her elven ears being exaggerated in the white frills is a cute touch. And the way the shoes wrap around her like her signature flames!!! SO peak.
